The Ministry of Finance has decided to abandon its previous plans to transfer the shares of UAB Valstyb\u0117s investicinis kapitalas (VIK\u2019as) to the National development bank ILTE. The final decision is to retain VIK\u2019as as a separate company and assign it a unique mandate to attract institutional investor capital from capital markets and channel it into the country’s strategic projects.<\/p>\n
In light of the changing geopolitical and economic situation, increasing attention is being paid to the development of the national defence industry and investments that ensure security. One of the priorities of the 21st Government is to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities and manage existing defence-related investments effectively. Following an analysis and assessment of the financial activities of VIK and ILTE, it was decided that maintaining the two companies as separate entities would enable better utilisation of the potential of capital markets, mobilisation of greater financial resources for the Lithuanian economy, and diversification of risks.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that VIK\u2019as became the first company in the Nordic and Baltic capital markets to issue defence bonds under the defence bond framework approved by Nasdaq. The company has established a EUR 400 million medium-term bond programme for defence projects, which has been assigned an A+ credit rating by Fitch Ratings. VIK has committed to investing EUR 71 million in the Rheinmetall plant in Lithuania. The remaining amount may be invested in defence and security infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
Acting as the company’s shareholder, the Ministry of Finance will seek to ensure all necessary risk mitigation measures for institutional investors purchasing the company’s bonds. The development of capital markets will continue to be one of the company’s key areas of activity, and VIK is prepared to contribute to the development of the defence sector by issuing new securities, investing in strategic projects, and managing existing financial investments effectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
